Our story
Cultural Encounter
The Sundeer was conceived and launched by Zoltán Sólyomfi - Nagy in 2015. Ceremony leader, teacher (BTF), poet, songwriter, ethnographer (PTE BTK BA), cultural anthropologist (PTE BTK MA). In the last decades he has published several music and poetry books.
His main interest is the worldview and rituals of the near-natural peoples. His research focuses on the spiritual practices and worldviews of nomadic peoples of Central Asia, North American Indian nations and early Hungarians, and their legacies.
He has travelled to Central Asia, India and the Indian reservations of North America, where he has participated in ceremonies and cultural meetings. His scientific publications deal with the history of the CSERGA (sweat lodge, temascal, inipi, sweatlodge, etc.) ritual and hair dressing and its spiritual meanings.
His wife and organizing partner, Andrea Segovia Pigassi, is a Brazilian-Chilean sociologist and dance teacher. In Hungary, she helps people heal using the therapeutic dance method called Biodanza.
The Sundeer has created a community consisting of knowledge keepers, teachers, volunteers, and participants. Members of this community renew their commitment each year towards the spiritual path of various ancient traditions.
The event offers a nourishing and enriching learning process in a loving and inclusive environment. Our five-day journey begins on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock with the Opening Fire Ceremony, where our guests from various traditions introduce themselves in a shared prayer before Grandfather Fire. Throughout the entire five days of the Sundeer, we guard and nurture the sacred fire until the Closing Fire Ceremony on Sunday. The flames fuel the ceremonies and remind us of our connection with the forces of Mother Nature, our unity. They evoke our spirits, our origins, and the possibility of transformation and community creation.
Join us for the 11th Sundeer Gathering
27-31 August 2025!
Sundeer is a meaningful ceremony that invites you to pray and share in community through learning deep-rooted traditions in an atmosphere of reflection and respect.
Our fundamental goal is to evoke the knowledge embedded in the ancient memory of humanity for maintaining physical and spiritual balance, to discover our true selves, and to explore the possibility of a clearer and healthier life.
We exist in continuous gratitude, awakening every pore of our body and spirit.
It provides an opportunity for a nurturing and meaningful learning process in a loving and welcoming environment. The five-day journey begins on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the opening fire ceremony, where our guests from different traditions present themselves before Grandfather Fire in communal prayer.
The sacred fire is guarded and kept burning throughout the 5 days of Sundeer until the closing fire ceremony on Sunday. The flames nourish the ceremonies and also serve as live reminders of our connection to the forces of Mother Nature, they invoke our spirit, our ancestry, the possibility of transformation and community.
